Happy Wednesday! How’s the wedding planning going!? It’s been very snowy around these parts, so it’s given this bride to be a lot of time to think about my wedding, my bride’s weddings, and so much more! I’m trying to figure out my florals right now, but that’s for another post. Where are you with your check list? Have you picked your date yet? If not, this post is for you.

Last week we talked all about picking your venue, one of the biggest decisions, in my opinion, and the next decision you make with booking your venue is picking your date. For some brides, this is a no brainer, but for brides like me, it took me a little longer. I took a lot of things into consideration when I picked our date. Before I was even engaged, I always dreamed of having an October wedding. It’s my favorite month, the leaves changing and the weather temperature make it the perfect wedding month, but, guess what? My wedding is in June. Yeah, June is no where near the month of October and is nothing like October, but it’s the perfect month for our wedding and this is why…

When you all are figuring out a date you have to consider these few things:

  • Price
    • First see whether or not your venue bumps up the price for certain months, and see if that price works for your budget.
  • Friday or Sunday Wedding Options
    • Ask your venue if they give discounts for weddings held on Friday or Sunday, this could lower the price! Never a bad thing!!
  • The Venue
    • Stalk your venue. Yes, you read that correctly. Google your venue, and see what your venue looks like in different months! This played a huge role in choosing our date!
  • Temperature/Weather
    • This one pretty much explains itself. If you don’t like the cold, don’t have a winter wedding. If you don’t like it super hot, don’t have a summer wedding. I think you get the picture!
  • Holidays/Sports Events
    • I actually never considered this point, but I am so glad my dad brought this up. Take in consideration the area your venue is located. For example, my wedding venue is in Lexingotn, Virginia. There are two colleges in Lexington, and so I had to consider homecoming, big sporting events, and graduation because of hotels. If I had my wedding any of those weekends, the hotels would be close to impossible to save rooms for my guests and that would be a disaster! Definitely take the time to look into this point, you will not regret it!!
  • Honeymoon
    • This point doesn’t affect too many of you, but for most couples they book their honeymoon right after their wedding. If you are looking to do that, definitely think about the date of your wedding and if booking a honeymoon right after your wedding works for your job schedule or any other life event. For MJ and I, MJ is a third grade teacher so we can only take our honeymoon during the summer and we decide we really wanted to have our honeymoon right after our wedding!

I know, that’s a lot to consider and just for a date, but it’s all that we considered when we made our final decision and I’m really glad we did! It took us over a month to decide on a date because each week we had thought of a new point that is listed above, so I personally wish I had read a post like this when I was figuring out my date… I would have chosen a date a lot sooner!

I hope this helps, and stay tuned for next weeks Wedding Wednesday! Happy Planning!!

xoxo
