A Rainy and Romantic Washington DC Monument Proposal
She said, “YES!”
Over 2 months ago, Peter messaged me, asking if I would photograph his proposal to his girlfriend, Haili! What he didn’t know was that I was waiting for his message for what has seemed like years.
Haili was my first friend when I went to Lynchburg College. Not only did she live right next door, but she was also on the field hockey team with me. She was one of the few friends that was completely and utterly honest with me from the start, and I loved her for it! Haili has a personality and heart unlike any other person I have ever met, and I am so happy that she found someone that loves her so much for it!
After her first year, Haili decided to transfer to JMU and this is where she met Peter! And this is where I come back into the picture.
Haili told me years ago (yep almost 2 years ago) that when Peter decides to propose, he was told to contact me to photograph the whole thing! Well, Peter listened and listened well because he did just that. He messaged me, we talked back and forth for weeks, and walked all around DC for the perfect spot for his perfect proposal.
As we all know, nothing is ever perfect though, but it’s how we react to the imperfections…
The weather called for rain and a lot of it! Luckily we had a misting and a little bit of rain, but no one would have guessed this… There was an elopement planned in the monument at the very same time as the proposal! What are the chances?
The crazy part? Literally minutes before the proposal, the bride and groom were doing a first look in the heart set up for Peter and Haili. I laugh now, but I was a nervous wreck haha! I sprinted up to the heart, kindly told the photographer that a proposal was about to happen any minute in this heart, and that they needed to move (with the biggest smile on my face and I did say congrats- I’m not a terrible human being)!
They moved back into the monument, Peter bent down on one knee, and she said YES! With friends and family then waiting behind a building to hug and wish them nothing but happiness and congratulations! Everyone has been waiting for this day to come!
Peter and Haili, I could not be happier for the two of you! Seriously, you two make the most wonderful couple and I am so excited for you both as you plan the wedding of your dreams! I hope you love a few of my favorite images from your proposal! You two are the best!
xoxo
