Engagement sessions hold a place near and dear to my heart, and yes I am totally writing this post from a photographer prospective and not a bride to be. Oh well haha! Engagement sessions, in my opinion, are one of the best experiences during your engagement, and this blog post is going to focus on why you should do an engagement session! And over the next two weeks I’ll be talking about the two big questions, “Where do I have the engagement session done, and what in the world do I wear?

During this session, you get to know your photographer, which is huge. (Did you realize that you spend more time with your photographer than your husband on your wedding day? Read more here!) So during this time together, you really get to know one another, and you and your fiance can get used to being in front of the camera. (Unless you happen to be models, then you are just a rock star haha!) On your wedding day, you will understand how the photographer works and poses, and it will be like you have been friends forever and you can enjoy your day so much more.

The best part of having an engagement session is that you actually get to spend time with your future hubby and really enjoy the fact that you are getting married!! Planning a wedding is definitely stressful and overwhelming, and I know I sometimes forget the excitement and the joy of actually being engaged! How sad is that? I know I am really excited about our future session! Yes, MJ does not like being in front of the camera, but he loves me and he loves that we are engaged, so that’s all that matters!

For most photographers, they offer complimentary engagement sessions, so YAY for that! But, if they do not, I highly recommend still doing one with your wedding photographer! I promise that you will not regret it!

If you are looking for the bullet points, here you go:

  • You get warmed up to the camera, so on your wedding day you are confident and know what you are doing!
  • You get to know your photographer: how they work, who they are, so it’s like you’ve been friends forever!
  • You get to enjoy the fact that you are engaged!! During all the craziness of planning, you get to enjoy the fact that you are getting married!!
  • You can use these photos for everything and anything! Save the Dates, Invitations, and for your home and albums!

At the end of the day, you don’t want to regret not documenting this special time in your lives, so go ahead and start talking to your photographer about setting up your engagement session!!

Stay tuned next week for my tips and tricks on what to wear to your engagement session!

xoxo
